Diabetic Nephropathy Symptoms in Urine

Diabetic Nephropathy is a kind of secondary kidney disorders which is caused by long time diabetes. It is reported that if not controlled well, 20% to 40% of patients with diabetes will develop into Diabetic Nephropathy after 20 to 25 years. Diabetic Nephropathy is the most common complication of diabetes, which can also be called renal glomerular sclerosis caused by diabetes. 

　 Once diagnosed with Diabetic Nephropathy, patients are more concerned about the symptoms in urine for kidney has an important function: filtration. In normal condition, only small molecules can filtrate out through kidney into urine. However, when Diabetic Nephropathy takes place, some middle molecules and even big molecules will also filtrate out such as proteins in urine. 

     In clinic, the earliest symptom of Diabetic Nephropathy is protein in urine. At the beginning, it appears every now and then. Later, it appears continuously. In the beginning, it is micro albuminuria, which can not be tested out through conventional urinalysis. Once we find out there is protein in urine, it usually develop into middle stage. How to test protein in the early stage? We can test the secretion rate of albumin. In the early stage, the conventional protein test is negative, and if it is more than 0.5g/24 hours for a long time, it indicates that patients have become into renal failure stage. 

In addition, in urine change, patients with Diabetic Nephropathy can also have increased urine at night or increased times of urine at night, both of which indicates that the renal function is damaged.
